POINTSETTIA’S A NATIVE PLANT OF MEXICO
In the USA and Canada, the poinsettia plant has become a symbol of Christmas.
Linda and I had just driven under the arch that leads to Roca Azul RV Park. There at the side of the road stood a three-meter-tall poinsettia, in all its wild December glory, of Reds and Greens. This plant said, “Christmas,” without snow or reindeer. Known in Mexico as the “Flower of the Holy Night.” The Aztec’s called the poinsettia, Cuitlaxochitl. Originally cultivated as a gift for their King Montezuma, a gift for the god. The local indigenous population still treat the poinsettia with religious respect.
THE RV PARK, ACCESS AND SECURITY
Roca Azul RV park is part of the Club Roca Azul. A gated club within the gated community of Roca Azul just south of Jocotepec, off Highway 15. Security is good. Very tall rigs should check the height clearance of the entrance arch when booking.
Don’t be put off by the long straight drive (1km) from highway 15 that takes you through the Roca Azul housing zone security gate. After a further .5 km, you make a right turn to the Club Roca Azul security gate.
BOOKING CAMPSITES
Book in advance if you can, this park is popular with Caravans, and campsites and may fill quickly during weekends and local holidays. Use PayPal for online booking. This campground is open for twelve months of the year. There are rates for the day/week/month/year.
FACILITIES
With spacious gravel and grass, full hook-up sites, they can accommodate rigs of all sizes. Electrical options are 20/30/50-amps. WiFi and laundry access is available. There are two swimming pools. A large swimming pool in front of the clubhouse that felt too cool to my touch for a swim in December. The other pool closest to the RV park is refilled daily with hot water from a thermal hot spring. There is a restaurant in the clubhouse that sells limited fast foods. Basketball, tennis courts, and a soccer field provide opportunities for outdoor group activities. An enjoyable walking path circles the campground.
RV storage is available if you want to leave your rig. Check when booking.
PETS
Pets are expected to be kept under their owners’ control.
COSTS AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
One hour to Guadalajara, Tequila and Ajijic. Ajijic is half the distance, but the 20 to 30 Topes makes it a slow drive. Jocotepec itself is an enjoyable Mexican town with plenty of food choices and a Malecon.
The December 2018 monthly rate was 4500 pesos.

MY OPINION
This is a nice clean, well-kept RV Park, conveniently placed for touring the area west of Guadalajara and Ajijic. The RV Park may get busy during the weekends and holidays due to the proximity to Guadalajara.
L&M TIP OF THE WEEK.
Drive at less than 15 km/hour when going over topes. Topes can damage front ends, springs and transmission casings.
