Staying Warm While RVing in Winter

Even though the summer is the most popular season to RV in, there are plenty of opportunities for year-round RV adventures that you can enjoy.

But, if you choose to head out into the great outdoors while the temperatures plummet, you’ll still need to take the proper precautions in order to stay warm and comfortable while on your adventure. Continue reading below to find a brief guide to staying warm while on RV trips in the wintertime cold.

Know Your Vehicle

The first tip to staying warm in your RV in the winter is to check out the specs of your vehicle to see what type of weather it can withstand on its own. This can give you a good baseline understanding of what the unit can handle, and where you’ll need to provide reinforcements with extra blankets or space heaters in order to stay warm.

For instance, some RVs will have an “Extreme Weather Package” or “Polar Package” meaning it’s designed for colder temperatures than most RVs. So, pay attention to the temperature ranges provided by the manufacturer, and plan to bring extra equipment or gear accordingly.

Visit Areas with Hook-Ups

If you plan on taking an RV trip in the winter, look for campgrounds that have electrical hookups.

This will allow you to use space heaters for extra warmth, which is especially helpful if you plan on traveling in extremely cold temps for a few consecutive days.

Travel to Warm Areas

Above all, if you want to take a wintertime excursion in your rig, consider visiting someplace in the South in order to keep yourselves warm and cozy during your trip.

There’s a reason places like Arizona and Florida are popular destinations for RVers in the winter–they can be a great escape from the colder weather up North!

So even though it’s possible to safely travel to winter wonderland destinations in your RV, there is a lot of prep and research you’ll need to do beforehand to make it happen in a safe and warm manner–and there’s always the chance that things go wrong once you’ve reached your destination.

But by following these tips laid out above, you can be sure to keep yourself warm and cozy in your RV on a wintertime trip.
